Shabba Nelson – Reggae Songwriter with a Political Edge and Heartfelt Love Songs
Born in Manchester, UK, in March 1976, Shabba Nelson’s love for reggae ignited in 1983 when he first heard UB40. At just seven years old, he was captivated by their sound, opening the door to a world of reggae legends like John Holt, Gregory Isaacs, Peter Tosh, Eek-A-Mouse, and Bob Marley. Inspired by UB40’s politically charged lyrics, Shabba carved his own path in reggae songwriting, using his music as a voice for the people.
While many of Shabba’s tracks, including Dear Keir, Hey Starmer, and Enough Is Enough, tackle social and political issues head-on, he also brings a softer side to his work. His reggae love songs are just as powerful, offering a beautiful balance between thought-provoking activism and heartfelt romance.
With a passion for truth, justice, and love, Shabba Nelson continues to make waves in the reggae scene, proving that reggae music is a dynamic force—whether it's sparking change or capturing the essence of love.
